TheActim®InfluenzaA&Brapidtestisbasedonhighlyspecificmonoclonalantibodiesthatdetectnucleoproteinofthevirus.Thisistheinternalpartofthevirusthatisnotsubjecttoannualstructuralchanges.ActimInfluenzaA&Bisspecifictoinfluenzaanddoesnotdetectotherrespiratoryviruses,suchasadenovirus,rapidrespiratorysyncytialvirus,orrhinovirus.ItdetectswiderangeofInfluenzaAsubtypes,includingH5N3,H7N3,H9N2,H5N1(“avianflu”),andH1N1v(“swineflu”).

Collectarespiratorysample
Nasal/nasopharyngealswab,nasalwash/aspirate.
Extractthesamplefornasal/nasopharyngealswab
Dispense12dropsofSwabExtractionBufferintothetesttube.
Placetheswabintothetesttubeandswirlaroundforabout10seconds.Presstheswabagainstthewallofthetubeandremoveitfromthetube.
Extractthesamplefornasalwash/aspirate:
Dispense3dropsofExtractionBufferintothetesttube.
Mixthesolutionswell.
Activatethetest
PlacetheyellowdipareaintothetesttubewithextractedsampleandleaveitthereuntilreADIng.
Interpretresults
ApositiveresultcanbereadassoonasitbecomesvisIBLe.Onebluelineinthelowerpartoftheresultarea=influenzaApositive,Onebluelineinthemiddlepartoftheresultarea=influenzaBpositive,Twobluelinesintheresultarea=influenzaAandBpositive.
Anegativeresultshouldbeconfirmedat10minutes.Onlyablackcontrollineisvisible=influenzavirusnotdetected,furtherinvestigationneeded.
